At the end of last month the Motor Sport Council meeting announced that World Rally Cars would no longer to able to compete in regional championships as of the 1st of January, 2003. However according to recent reports it would seem that the FIA, motorsport's governing body, are now planning on introducing a new category to substitute the World Rally Cars.
The preliminary studies are looking at the possibility of introducing a new category that would resemble Group N, which is the currently production category, rather than the WRCars. However should the FIA chose to introduce a new class it will only be in time for the 2004 or even 2005 seasons.
