European success for Basso
ERC - Rally 1000 Miglia |
|
Giandomenico Basso and Luca Pedersoli impressed everyone in the 28th edition of the 1000 Miglia this weekend. The race is part of the European Championship (round 1, coef. 20) and the Italian Championship.
Basso drove his Fiat Punto to victory while Pedersoli managed a superb performance at the wheel of his 306 Maxi.
Basso started by matching Andrea Dallavilla's pace in the first stage. Giandomenico took the fastest time in the following stage and won most of the other stages along with Pedersoli in the first leg.
However, Pedersoli lost more than two minutes in SS 6, ruining his chances of winning the prestigious event.
The second leg started with the retirement of Bruno Thiry, who broke a suspension part after hitting a kerb. A difficult day also for Simon Jean- Joseph: the Renault driver lost more than a minute when his car's bonnet opened, damaging the windscreen.
Basso now comfortably in the lead, Pedersoli dominated the second day. Only Renato Travaglia was able to beat the Peugeot driver by winning the penultimate stage of the event.
Paolo Audreucci is now alone in first place in the Italian Championship, followed by Navarra and Basso, tied in second position.
